Dip-Sag Voltage Compensator (DVC)

What is Voltage SAG?

SAG (or DIP) is a momentary (usually within a second) voltage drop. Sag is caused by both lightning, rain, snow, construction trouble and the cause of wild animal etc. and by the fall and short circuit of the power supply track. Voltage Sag is one of the unstable unexpected elements in modern industrial sector. Sag not only severely affects production operation of facilities that requires high precision, but also causes serious troubles such as poor quality delivery delay due to falling productivity.

 will protect sensitive equipment from being tripped by short duration of power supply quality problem. In short, DVC enhances operation reliability of the equipment and protects precision equipment against such electrical problem without actual user’s additional hardship, as it is a complete maintenance free device. Also a lot of malfunction which happens in electronic components and circuits could be prevented with DVC.

 Operation theory of DVC

During the normal status, input voltage directly flows to main equipment through DVC's bypass line. (see the blue arrow) At the same time charging process works to EDLC. When detecting Sag or low voltage level input voltage cut off then EDLC energy is supplied to main equipment. The switching works within 2ms(0.002 sec) from Sag detection to compensation voltage supply. DVC mode changes as Stand-by when original power line is recovered.

Using EDLC (Electric Double Layer Capacitor; SUPER CAP) as an energy storage,  has high reliability and a long life span (approximately 10 years)

    Electric charges on the surface of activated carbon are physically adsorbed and desorbed. By doing so, a lot of electrical energy momentarily be stored. LIkewise, EDLC is an energy storage device which supplies high current instantaneously continuously.
